The Department of Aquatic Resource Management (MSP), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) IPB University held an open house as an effort to introduce the Postgraduate Study Program (prodi) to the Directorate General of Marine Spatial Management (DG PRL), Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) RI. Open house in the form of exposure and discussion related to postgraduate study programs managed by the MSP Department of IPB University.
“DG PRL is the main partner and stakeholder of the MSP Department of IPB University, both the Coastal and Marine Resource Management Study Program (SPL) and the Aquatic Resource Management Study Program (SDP). This is because the scope of the main tasks and functions (tupoksi) of DG PRL is very much in accordance with the science offered by the two study programs,” said Prof Hefni Effendi, Chairman of the MSP Department of IPB University.
According to him, the Directorate General of Marine Resources, which focuses on the management of habitats, ecosystems, marine spatial, conservation and marine services requires reliable and educated human resources (HR) in order to further strengthen the ability to manage marine space.
The SPL study program, which focuses on managing aquatic resources in coastal and marine spaces, provides various specializations including integrated coastal area management (ICM), management of coastal and marine marine protected areas, development of coastal and marine ecotourism, coastal and marine water pollution management, and coastal and marine spatial analysis. The specialization also includes modeling of marine space management, ecosystem-based fisheries resource management, and coastal area management based on coastal and marine social and ecological systems.
“Meanwhile, the SDP Study Program in principle is more about the ecological system of habitats, ecosystems and biota communities as well as resource utilization systems and management of inland water ecosystems. Management of social and ecological systems of inland water areas is also a field of expertise offered by this SDP Study Program,” explained Prof Hefni.
The Chairman of the SPL Doctoral Study Program at IPB University, Prof Ario Damar also conveyed the curriculum and postgraduate education system in the two study programs, including the technical registration of new students in the even semester period 2022/2023 and odd 2023/2024.
The discussion participants were all staff at the Directorate General of PRL KKP. The participants asked technical questions such as registration, lectures and academics to matters related to daily life if studying at IPB University.
Present were Dr. Kusdiantoro as Secretary of DG PRL, KKP; Prof Fredinan Yulianda, Dean of FPIK IPB University. The discussion also involved the Chairman of SPL Master Program (Dr Zairion), Chairman of SDP Doctoral Program (Dr Sigid Haryadi) and Chairman of SDP Master Program (Dr M Mukhlis Kamal).
“It is hoped that the strategic cooperation between the Department of MSP FPIK IPB University and the Directorate General of PRL KKP can continue. Mutually beneficial synergies can take place in order to improve the quality of human resources for marine spatial managers and Indonesian fisheries people,” hoped Prof Hefni. (*/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
