Entering the era of collaboration towards a world-class university, the Department of Aquatic Resources Management (MSP) of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) IPB University continued to pioneer and strengthen partnerships with a number of universities abroad, one of which was with James Cook University (JCU) Australia.

MSP IPB University had discussed collaboration with James Cook University (JCU) by presenting JCU University delegates including Dr Reniel Carbral, Dr Allesa Costa, Dr Katya Jagolta who were accompanied by Prof Yonvitner, MSP IPB University lecturer. The activity was held on 6/12.

The collaboration began with a general lecture attended by postgraduate students of Coastal and Marine Resource Management (SPL), Aquatic Resource Management (SDP) and MSP Department of IPB University which was opened by the Dean of FPIK, Prof Fredinan Yulianda.

“The importance of synergy must be strengthened to ensure our preparation towards a global university. Australia has similarities with Indonesia, so it is important to strengthen research on fisheries and marine,” he said.

On this occasion Dr Reniel Carbral said that the collaboration would begin with research on Marine Protected Areas (MPA) in Indonesia, “For this reason, support from various research institutions and universities is needed so that the MPA design runs well and provides more benefits to the community,” said Dr Reniel.

Meanwhile, Chief of the MSP Department of IPB University, Prof Hefni Effendi, the MSP Department was one of the institutions that strengthened science in the management of marine protected areas.

“The collaboration between the MSP Department and JCU is considered appropriate, therefore, joint communication needs to be continued and strengthened so that the cooperation built will become more concrete,” said Prof Hefni.
