The Association of Aquatic Resource Management Students (Himasper), Department of Aquatic Resource Management (MSP), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) at IPB University, organized a national competition as part of the Indonesian Water Festival. This event, which is one regularly initiated by the Himasper of IPB University, features various exciting competition categories and successfully attracts the interest of dozens of universities from across Indonesia.
Dzaki Ramdhani, the Chairman of the Indonesian Water Festival Committee, explained that the national competition showcases three different competition categories: essay, infographic, and creative video. Each competition has its own unique theme that challenges participants to produce creative and innovative works that contribute to issues surrounding the water environment happening at present.
“The essay competition category focuses on the theme ‘Blue Carbon and Marine Trash.’ Participants are expected to explore knowledge about the importance of carbon absorption by marine ecosystems and the impact of marine trash on the sustainability of the environment,” he said.
At the same time, he continued on that the infographic and creative video competition category revolves around the theme ‘Aquatic Resources Management for Future Life,’ which considers efforts to manage water resources for a better future.
This competition attracted the participation of 100 contestants from various universities throughout Indonesia. Participants competed to produce engaging, informative, and deeply understanding works related to the theme. To ensure the quality of the competition, the festival invited competent judges in their respective fields. One of the main judges is Prof Sulistiono, a professor at the Department of MSP at IPB University.
In addition to recognition and the opportunity to share thoughts and ideas with experts, a total prize of 10 million Indonesian rupiahs is also provided for the winners in each competition category. These prizes aim to encourage participants to continue innovating and contributing to solving water environmental problems.
“By involving participants from various universities across Indonesia, this competition provides opportunities for collaboration and the exchange of ideas among young people who concern themselves with the future of Indonesian waters. It is hoped that the Indonesian Water Festival will continue to be a platform that promotes awareness and real action in maintaining water sustainability and quality. All the participants are expected to continue innovating and becoming agents of change for a better future, especially for Indonesian waters,” he explained.
The Chairman of the MSP Department at IPB University, Prof Hefni Effendi, strongly supports the creativity of these students, making it possible for the event to be held annually. “In fact, the committee managed to attract sponsorships from the business community. This event also serves as a platform to share knowledge about building networks for students,” he expressed in words.
