One of the Professors of IPB University, Prof Luky Adrianto took part in the Sustainable Ocean Symposium organized by the Fujian Institute of Sustainable Ocean (FISO), Xiamen University, (10/11). The symposium was held under the theme ‘Advancing Sustainable Coastal Development: Technologies and Approaches’.
This activity is part of the Xiamen World of Ocean Week (XWOW) organized by the Government of Fujian Province and Xiamen City, China on (8-11/11). The symposium was attended by approximately 100 people from 20 countries that are members of the Maritime Silk Route.
The symposium was held in three main sessions, namely (1) Governance Practices on Sustainable Ocean Development; (2) Applied Technologies to Advance Sustainable Coastal Development; and (3) Panel Discussion on Sustainable Coastal Development.
Prof Luky Adrianto, Professor of IPB University at the Department of Aquatic Resources Management (MSP), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) led a panel discussion session on the topic of Capacity Index for Sustainable Coastal Development.
In this session, the Chairman of IPB University’s International Maritime, Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (i-MAR) also conveyed the importance of the regenerative sustainability approach in ensuring inclusive coastal and ocean governance. The approach involves multi-partners through what is called the Inclusive Blue-Partnership.
In this academic trip to China, Prof Luky Adrianto who is also the main advisor at the Center for Coastal and Marine Resources Studies (PKSPL) IPB University also brought a mission to revive the academic cooperation of the MSP Department of IPB University with Xiamen University. The academic cooperation includes the Postgraduate Study Program for Coastal and Marine Resource Management (SPL) which was constrained during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Before the pandemic, the collaboration between the Department of MSP IPB University and Xiamen University had reaped results. Several alumni of the MSP Department of IPB University were able to continue their Masters and S3 studies at Xiamen University. The collaboration is in the form of student exchange, S2 and S3 programs for SPL study program students to Xiamen University.
“With the plan to reactivate this academic collaboration, the main performance indicators (KPIs) of the MSP Department of IPB University are expected to increase, especially KPIs 3, 4 and 6,” said the Head of the MSP Department of IPB University, Prof. Hefni Effendi.
