Education staff, lecturers and students of the Department of Aquatic Resources Management (MSP) Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) IPB University facilitated the stocking of fish in SDGs Lake on the IPB Dramaga Campus during the 74th IPB Anti-Gold Reunion on 30/4.

This activity collaborates with the Fisheries Business Expert Polytechnic (AUP) Cikaret Bogor. In the activity, the seeds of nilem fish (Ostechilus vittatus) were distributed in the IPB University SDGs Lake and the planting of Tabebuya tree seeds (Tabebuia rosea) along the shores of the lake.

Head of the MSP FPIK IPB University Department, Prof. Hefni Effendi, the Antime IPB 74 golden reunion activity at Lake SDGs was a form of solidarity from IPB University alumni and love for the alma mater.

“In addition to maintaining friendship, this activity also commemorates Earth Day which is celebrated every April 22. This activity was very useful because it involved many IPB University residents. Things like this are real proof of IPB alumni’s social and environmental concern,” he said.

“The philosophy of choosing the type of nilem fish is to fill the empty food niche in the SDGs Lake. This is known because before the activity, the team from the MSP Department of FPIK IPB University with coordinator Dr Charles PH Simanjuntak had carried out a series of water ecology studies for two years in SDGs Lake to determine the species composition (taxa) and abundance of fish in SDGs Lake,” said Prof Hefni.

He explained that SDGs Lake is an iconic lake within the IPB Darmaga campus. Around this lake there is a plaza which can be used as a place to hold activities with an outdoor concept on the edge of the lake.

Then there is also a sign board about 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) concepts. “The Tabebuya tree has a variety of colors when the flowers are in bloom. The Tabebuya tree was chosen because of the variety of flower colors, namely white, yellow and pink, which can later add to the aesthetic value of the SDGs Lake,” said Prof. Hefni.

Prof. Hefni Effendi also gave encouragement to the staff and students of the MSP Department who participated in this fish seed distribution activity. “The MSP Department has provided two rubber boats and a number of life jackets (safety equipment) as personal protective equipment (PPE) for the participants in this activity,” he explained.

This activity was attended by the Chancellor of IPB University, Prof. Arif Satria. In his speech, Prof. Arif stated that alumni are the most effective public relations figures or campus ambassadors in promoting their alma mater outside the campus environment.

This activity was also attended by Deans from the Faculty of Agriculture, School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedicine, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Faculty of Forestry and Environment and Faculty of Agricultural Technology.

After all the activities were completed, the participants of the IPB 74 Antime Gold Reunion also visited the IPB Future Museum and Gallery.
