SMKN PP Cianjur, September 24, 2024 – “Dosen Pulang Kampung” (Dospulkam) organized by lecturers of the Department of Aquatic Resources Management (MSP), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK), IPB University, has been successfully implemented at SMK Negeri Pertanian Pembangunan (SMKN PP) Cianjur. This activity aims to broaden the horizons of students and teachers and strengthen collaboration between higher education institutions and secondary schools in developing the potential of aquatic resources as raw materials for fiber sources through environmentally friendly technology.

Several lecturers from the MSP Department, FPIK IPB consisting of Prof. Dr. Ir. Niken T.M. Pratiwi, M.Sc., Dr. Majariana Krisanti, S.Pi., M.Sc., Inna Puspa Ayu, S.Pi., M.Sc., and Dwi Yuni Wulandari, S.Pi., M.Sc. also participated together with students and teachers from SMKN PP Cianjur. The presence of the lecturers provided new insights and skills for students regarding the managing of filamentous microalgae in the preparation of raw materials for fiber sources. The teachers of SMKN PP Cianjur also played an active role in supporting and facilitating the activity.

This is the second visit of MSP FPIK IPB lecturers to SMKN PP Cianjur in the context of implementing Dospulkan in 2024. During the first visit (08/08/24), During the first visit, students and teachers of SMKN PP Cianjur were introduced to various types of filamentous microalgae as well as how to maintain and obtain biomass from these filamentous microalgae. Meanwhile, on the second visit (24/09/24) the students learned and participated in practicing how to clean, print and dry microalgae to later be used for various purposes. All students were given the opportunity to learn directly from experts to understand the process of handling filamentous microalgae. This activity not only enriches knowledge, but also empowers students and teachers with practical skills, enhancing their understanding of aquatic resources as raw materials for fiber sources.

Through the Dosen Pulang Kampung Program, students of SMKN PP Cianjur are expected to improve their practical skills and understanding of managing aquatic resources as raw materials for fiber sources. This kind of activity is also expected to increase students’ enthusiasm for learning and can serve as an example to teachers and the general public about how to utilize microalgae as raw materials for fiber based on local resources.
